Mia Pearn (Occupational Therapist) Bachelor of Occupational Therapy - Deakin University, Geelong Waterfront Mia is an energetic and enthusiastic paediatric occupational therapist whose upbringing in a small rural town in country NSW has fostered her understanding of the importance of community and connection. With this understanding Mia strives to provide a holistic therapeutic approach that nurtures the connection between the client and all other key stakeholders (i.e. family members, teachers and other health professionals the client works with). Mia’s practice has a strong focus on collaboration with her client’s family/caregivers, she enjoys working to support and educate them in being active participants in the child’s therapy journey to ensure the therapeutic process continues beyond the session and can be implemented across all contexts and environments. Mia prides herself on working respectfully with families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Mia has facilitated individual and group therapy sessions in a range of settings such as the community (nature/outdoor therapy), schools, homes and in the clinic. Mia has a passion for nature and outdoor based therapy and strongly believes in the power of nature based therapy in supporting children’s growth and development. Mia’s previous experience includes working with children with varying ages, abilities and conditions including Global Developmental Delay, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) levels 1-3, Hypermobility, Intellectual Disability (ID), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD), Down Syndrome and those who have a history of trauma. Mia has extensive experience in working with children and their families and marvels at children’s growth and development and strongly believes we can learn so much from the little people in our lives. Mia is eager to broaden her knowledge and understanding through continuing professional development having completed courses such as Building Blocks for Sensory Integration and workshops on Treatment Strategies for Sensory Modulation and Sensory Integration in Nature Settings. Mia thoroughly enjoys spending her spare time outside with friends chasing waves, watching live music and theatre and exploring new food destinations. | |
